Melva Jean Casey was born March 23, 1944, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Harold Bronson Raker and Marjorie White Raker. She was raised around Sopchoppy, Florida, the eldest of five girls. In 1963, she married the love of her life, Wayne Casey. She and Wayne shared life together for 48 years, until his passing in 2011. She was an excellent mother and enjoyed being a housewife. Jean loved to cook and bake for her family and was famous for her biscuits. The boys started to grow up, and she went to work in the middle school lunchroom. Later, she moved to the Bainbridge High School lunchroom where she retired as the manager. She is still greeted by adults that remember her lovingly from their lunchroom days. Jean was always active in the churches they attended, West Street Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. She was an immense help to Wayne when he was instrumental in the founding of Landmark Baptist Church. Her family was her heart. The grandchildren were what made her world turn. There was never a more devoted spouse, loving mother, or adoring grandmother than Jean Casey. She will be deeply missed.
Jean Casey is survived by her son, Harold DeWayne Casey (Rhonda) of Richmond Hill, Georgia; grandchildren, Brandon (Lakien) Casey and Tristan Casey Humphrey (Robby); sisters, Carolyn Coley, Linda Flinkman (George), and Brenda Bradford (Robert); great-grandchildren, Kendyl Casey, Easton Casey, Rhodes Humphrey, Landon Casey, and Tyler Williamson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Randall Oscar Casey, sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Jerry Langley, and uncle and aunt, O’Neal and Arlene White.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jean to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
