Bainbridge FFA brings home banners and buckles from the Georgia National Fair

The Georgia National Fair Cattle Show was held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter on October 5-7, 2023. During the weekend, Abby Grubbs, Addison Cook, Ansley Cook, and Carson Lynn competed in the 2023 Georgia National Fair Heifer Show. On Friday, the show team competed in showmanship. Addison, Ansley, and Carson competed in a senior showmanship division with five heat groups. Abby competed in 11th-grade showmanship. Abby was selected as the top showman in her grade heat and advanced to the final round of 11th-grade showmanship. On Saturday, the show team competed in the heifer show. Abby exhibited her heifer, Maz, in class 4 of All Other Breeds. Abby and Maz were named the class winners, advancing this duo to the overall breed championship. Carson exhibited his Simmental heifer, Dolly, in class 3 of the Simmental show and placed 6th. Ansley exhibited her heifer, Dakota, in class 6 of the Simmental show, and this team placed 3rd in the class. In the commercial heifer show, Addison exhibited her heifer, Betsy. Addison and Betsy placed 9th in class.

The Georgia National Fair Market Hog and Breeding Gilt Show was held the following weekend at the Georgia National Fairground. Carson Lynn and Preston Lynn competed in the 2023 Georgia National Fair Swine Show. On Thursday Evening, Carson and Preston competed in their respective grade-level showmanship division. Preston and his barrow, Mater, were in heat 3 of 9th Grade Showmanship. Preston was selected as one of the top showmen of his heat, pushing him to the final drive of the 9th-grade showmanship division. During the final drive, Preston was selected as the 3rd Overall 9th Grade Showman. Carson Lynn and his barrow, Mauck, competed in heat 3 of Senior Showmanship. He was quickly chosen as a finalist in his grade heat and advanced to the final drive of Senior Showmanship. After an intensely competitive final drive, Carson was selected as the Overall Grand Champion Senior Swine Showman.

Not only did he win the buckle for being the Champion Senior Showman, but because of this honor, he was awarded the Leslie Barber Memorial Livestock Scholarship. Carson was honored to receive this scholarship not only because the Barber Family is also from Bainbridge but also because the Barber Family has had such an impact on Carson’s livestock show career. On Friday during the Breeding Gilt Show, Carson and his Chester White gilt placed 1st in class 2 of the All Other Breeds show. This duo returned to the ring for the All Other Breeds Champion Drive and was selected as the Grand Champion All Other Breeds Breeding Gilt.

Carson competed in class 7 of the Crossbred Breeding Gilt Class with his gilt, Laniey. This pair worked their way into top honors by being selected 1st in this class. Carson also showed in Class 8 of the Crossbred Gilt Show and placed 5th. Preston Lynn and Carson Lynn showed in the Market Barrow Show on Saturday. Preston and his Duroc barrow, Mater, competed in class 1 of the Duroc show, placing 3rd.

Carson and his barrow, Huff, were in class 15 of the Crossbred Show. This duo placed 1st in class, securing their spot in the Division 4 Drive. Preston and his barrow, Wide Belt, placed 2nd in class 16 of the Crossbred Show and appeared in the Division 4 Drive.

Carson and his barrow, Mauck, placed 2nd in class 17 of the Crossbred show. During the Division 4 Championship Drive, Carson and Huff were named the Division 4 Champions. This win solidified their spot to return to the Overall Final Drive of the Market Barrow Show. During the final drive of the Market Barrow Show, Carson was selected as the 3rd Overall Champion Market Barrow.
