Two Bainbridge FFA members have been named national finalists in their respective proficiency award categories. Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers.
Shane Hoskins was the state winner in the area of Landscape Management-Entrepreneurship. Carson Lynn was the state winner in the area of Swine Production-Entrepreneurship. These students competed in the semi-final round at the national level. Both of these students are now national finalists. As national proficiency finalists, these students have been named among the top 4 in the nation in each category. They will compete in the final round of interviews and find out their national ranking at the 96th National FFA Convention in October.
Shane Hoskins owns SGH Lawncare in Bainbridge, Georgia. He provides weekly services to over 15 residential and commercial sites in Bainbridge and the surrounding counties. From humble beginnings, Shane started his business as a way to make extra money. Through his hard work, he has a sustainable and successful business. Shane is a rising senior at Bainbridge High School, a Bainbridge FFA member, and a member of the Bearcat Football team. After high school, Shane plans to become a Game Warden and continue owning and operating SGH Lawncare.
Carson Lynn owns and operates a diversified multi-sow operation focusing on producing high-quality show stock for FFA and 4H members to exhibit in the junior livestock circuit. Much like most livestock showmen, the roots of his proficiency began in the show ring. This passion for the livestock industry led him to start his own enterprise of raising and selling show pigs. Through his experiences and passion, he has been able to successfully invest in his production operation which ultimately invests in the industry that supports us all, agriculture. Carson is a rising senior at Bainbridge High School, a Bainbridge FFA officer, and the Area 5 FFA President. After high school, Carson plans to become an insurance agent and continue raising show pigs.
