In the early morning hours of May 21st, 2019, Alison Green, a respiratory therapist at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital, was in the emergency room when the doors opened for a brand new baby girl and her parents. However, the newborn, Augusta Harrell, had come unexpectedly, prematurely, and wasn’t breathing. Seeing the potentially fatal situation before her, Green sprung into action and proceeded to use a manual respirator for the next two and a half hours. Green’s exemplary skills as a respiratory therapist undoubtedly saved Augusta’s life and kept her breathing until Phoebe-Putney’s NICU team arrived from Albany and was able to place her on a ventilator.
Callahan, Arrington, and Augusta recently visited Memorial Hospital to praise their hero. Augusta said, “thank you for saving my life, Ms. Alison!”
