Hattie Jo Austin King

Hattie Jo Austin King, age 84, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at her home in Brinson, Georgia.

Services for Mrs. King will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Brinson Baptist Church, 107 McNair Street, Brinson, Georgia. The Rev. Robert Crapps will officiate. Tanner Harrell, Drew Kelley, Brantley Shiver will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Brinson Cemetery, Brinson, Georgia. The family will receive friends 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, June 8, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home.

Hattie Jo Austin was born April 4, 1942, in De Soto, Kansas to Mabrey Austin and Addie Wright Austin. She married her soulmate, Harvey Earl King. She and Harvey were married for 56 years, and she felt his loss deeply.

Hattie was a person who loved meeting and being with people. She never met a stranger. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She did her best to attend every function of her children or grandchildren to cheer them on with her sweet smile. She was an example of how to be a good friend and loved deeply.  Hattie was a talented cook and baker. Her cakes, especially the 15-layer cakes, were outstanding. She had a green thumb and grew exceptional ferns, large and lush. Hattie was a member of Brinson Baptist Church. She worked for a while at The Post Searchlight and then went to work at the Bank of the Ozarks, where she retired from her Head Teller position after 38 years. A lady of deep faith, devoted to her family and friends, Hattie Jo King will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Mrs. King is survived by her children, Kathy, Karen, Rodney, and Susan; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charles Austin.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
