We regret to announce the passing of Mr. John Arthur Chesser. Mr. Chesser, age 75, passed away September 8, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the visitation/viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m.
John Arthur Chesser was born on January 16, 1951, in Gainesville, Florida, and later made his home in Moultrie, Georgia. Johnny was the beloved son of Earl Leslie Chesser and Gladys R. Chesser. He is survived by his daughters, Brandi Davis (Jerry) and Brittany Chesser; his son, David Earl Chesser; his brother, Jerry L. Chesser; his sister, Janice C. Lawson (Henry); and nieces, and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys Chesser; his wife, Carmen D. Chesser; his son, John D. Chesser; and his sister, Glenda C. Faircloth (Gordon).
Johnny touched the hearts and lives of many people and was loved by all who knew him. He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He leaves behind many memories, milestones, and moments that will continue to be cherished for generations to come. Johnny found much joy in being surrounded by his family. It was something special to see his face light up when all the family would gather together.
Johnny had a special gift of being able to make you smile and cheer you up, no matter the circumstances. He was a jokester and always loved being the center of attention. He could sure make you laugh! He had a smile and a wink that could light up any room that he entered. Johnny also had a passion for driving semi-trucks, which he did for most of his life. He drove many miles and had a CB handle of “Sugar Bear.” He acquired a few other nicknames over the years: “Fat Cat,” “Uncle Big Bad,” and “Johnny Auggie Doggie.”
He will surely be missed, but his presence, his personality, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever!
