On Friday morning, September 18th, Virgie Barber was called to Heaven and is in the arms of The King of Kings. She is happily seated in her recliner with her crochet in her lap, a cup of coffee at her side, listening to gospel music, and enjoying being in His presence.
The celebration of a life well lived will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor A. Roy Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with John Parker, Jonathan Nichols, Ryan Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Jamie Allen, Bobby Barber, Jr., John Cawvey, and Wade Kirkland serving as active pallbearers.

Virgie Lena Bryant was born March 9, 1945, in Chattahoochee, FL, the daughter of Hilton & Lita Edenfield Bryant. She was a graduate of Chattahoochee High School, Class of 1963, and earned a secretarial certification from Lively Vo-Tech.
Virgie began her career with the State of Florida where she worked for the speech writer to the insurance commissioner. When she married in 1968, she moved to Bainbridge and she worked for DFCS briefly before moving to Bainbridge State Hospital where she worked for 34 years and retired. She then worked at Seaborn Printing Company for a number of years before “officially” retiring.
Virgie was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church and a hard worker in her church. Her faith was important to her, and she was a quiet disciple who simply went about serving wherever she was needed. She had a generous spirit and the sweetest personality, which earned her the affectionate name “Aunt Virgie”.
Virgie was happiest around people, and some of her favorite times were spent around the card table or with her Red Hat ladies. She had a way of making ordinary days a little more enjoyable, whether she was helping someone at work, doing something at church, or sitting down for a game of cards. She was a godly woman who gave freely of her time, her talents, and herself.
Survivors include her children, Sheri B. Allen (Bill) and Hilton Barber (Allison); her sister, Betty Jean Weeks; her sister-in-law, Juanita Barber Cliett Talbert; her grandchildren, Stephen Nichols, Ryan Nichols, Jonathan Nichols, and Christopher Nichols; her granddogs, Millie Kate Barber and Mattie Jean Allen; several nieces & nephews; and her Seaborn Printing family whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William Lee Barber, and her sister, Frances Tye.
