Use your tax dollars to support Memorial Hospital and Manor

Dear Friend of Memorial Hospital and Manor,

You have the opportunity to decide HOW and WHERE your tax dollars are spent! Through Georgia HEART – the only tax credit program of its kind in the nation – you can redirect your state income taxes to our community hospital, Memorial Hospital and Manor. By using tax dollars that you must pay anyway, you will improve access to rural health outcomes, reduce gaps in urban-rural health, and generate positive economic impacts for our community.

On May 17th at 9:00 am, Georgia HEART began accepting 2021 pre-applications for unlimited contribution amounts. You now are not limited to $5K (single filer) or $10K (married filing jointly). However, any amount of your tax liability you are interested in keeping local is appreciated – Every. Dollar. Matters! Georgia HEART will submit these applications to the Georgia Department of Revenue beginning at 12:00 am on July 1st, in the order in which they are received. You may make your payment at any time during the remainder of calendar year 2021, but final payment will be due no later than December 31, 2021.

If you have been a program participant in the past, MHM has your information and would be glad to handle the submission for you with your desired amount of tax liability contribution. If you are new to the program, MHM can handle that in a 5 minute phone call. You can simply call or email Lauren Harrell, Director of Development, at [email protected] or 229-243-6115.

Not only will you receive a 100% Georgia income tax credit in exchange for your contribution, but if you own a pass-through business or are a C Corp, you may receive a federal tax benefit as well! Please check with your CPA or tax advisor on this possible benefit to you.

Final IRS regulations provide for a federal tax deduction opportunity for pass-through entities. Businesses can deduct payments to Georgia HEART hospitals – as ordinary and necessary business expenses – if they are made with the reasonable expectation of financial return for the business. The IRS regulations are generous, indicating that the deduction may be available for payments made “for use in projects that improve conditions in the state.”

Last year, Georgia taxpayers contributed more than $54 million to our state’s rural hospitals. For 2021, it is very likely that all $60 million in available tax credits will be consumed, as this tax planning opportunity is gaining in popularity and momentum. Last year, Memorial Hospital and Manor was able to capture $812,117. As a result, we began many projects such as needed renovations in Memorial Manor nursing home, the purchase of a “Wander Guard” system to keep our nursing home residents safe, and work towards renovations in our Emergency Department. We are so very thankful for those who have participated in this program and who have chosen to invest in our future.

Please consider applying and putting your tax dollars to work in our community. Together, we can work towards creating a better tomorrow.

Sincerely,

James M. Lambert, CEO
Memorial Hospital and Manor
