Jesus, The Responsible One

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12: 13, 14 KJV).

Man is created to be a responsible creature; even morally responsible. But man is negligent of his responsibilities. People are often negligent in their responsibilities because there is no accountability. The lack of accountability encourages one to be irresponsible. An irresponsible worker will be fired because of negligence, and a more responsible person will be hired as a replacement.

God is the moral governor of the universe. His law is the moral law and man is the moral agent responsible for keeping the law. Each man is held accountable one day for his obedience to the moral law set by God. Some say there is no judgment or accountability and therefore live very irresponsible lives. But denying God’s judgment and the accountability of man to the law doesn’t negate its reality.

Every person has failed in their responsibility to keep God’s law — “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3: 23). And the penalty for this disobedience is death and eternal separation from God in Hell — “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6: 23).

Man as a sinner is incapable of fulfilling his responsibility to God. Man is unable to perfectly keep the law required to satisfy a holy God. Unless someone took complete responsibility for the failure of mankind, a man would die in his sin and be eternally lost in Hell.

But God sent His Son Jesus Christ to shoulder the responsibility for ALL sins. Jesus is the responsible one that allowed Himself to be held accountable for every sin by paying the entire debt through His death at Calvary.

Jesus came as a responsible servant and lived accordingly to God’s will. He never departed from the script (Scripture) and fulfilled all Scripture and every responsibility pertaining to mankind’s redemption.

Jesus went to Calvary to take responsibility for our sins that we might be restored to God. Our account is settled with God the moment we put our faith in Jesus and His finished work of atonement and redemption at Calvary.
