Richard Elmer Hinners was born August 31, 1941, in Portland, ME, the son of Elmer & Viola Wilbrink Hinners. He graduated from high school in 1959 and attended Seton Hall and the University of Rhode Island. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.

Before moving to Georgia in 1996, Richard owned Gulfside Realty Investments Inc. in Naples, Florida, growing the company to four offices and more than 100 agents. He later owned Lake Seminole Realty, where his passion for the lake and the people who called it home on both sides was evident in everything he did. A member of the Southwest Georgia Board of Realtors for 25 years, Richard was known for “flying his own flag” and saying exactly what he thought.

His love for the lake extended beyond property sales. He truly loved being on the water: boating, sailing, and air boating. His evenings were filled with a nice glass of wine while feeding and watching the birds. Richard enjoyed cowboy mounted shooting and collecting cowboy memorabilia.

Survivors include his business associate & deeply trusted friend, Sheri Young and her husband, BoBo; his son, Richard J. Hinners; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Hinners. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
