Eugene Marion McKenzie was born March 2, 1944, in Thomasville, GA, the son of Mildred Chason McKenzie. He attended Bay County High School. In 1967, Rudy married Sue Boyett, and they made their home in Attapulgus. He retired from Englehard and was a member of Attapulgus Volunteer Fire Department and Attapulgus Baptist Church.

A good ol’ boy from a different time, Rudy was a friend for life if he liked you. He freely shared his opinion and turned your attention to the fine print stating he didn’t really care what others thought. He enjoyed everything about outside. Rudy liked to ride the roads (slowly because he didn’t want to miss a thing), running coon hounds & deer dogs, setting limb lines, roping, tinkering on old tractors, and raising chickens. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and he always allowed them to try things (like him) at a level never afforded to Gene & Stasha. Rudy would chuckle over things he could look back on now and describe as small stuff.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sue Boyett McKenzie; his children, Gene McKenzie and Stasha McKenzie, both of Attapulgus; his grandchildren, Blayne, Chase, and Madalyne & Bailey; his siblings, Wayne McKenzie (Debbie), Frances McKinney, and Diane Randall (Duane) all of Southport, FL, and June Traylor (Bruce) of Lynn Haven, FL; and his granddogs, Daisy & Sadie. Rudy was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Chason Odom; his brother, Dennis Odom; and his grandparents, Eugene & Florida Chason.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
