4-H Project Achievement Contest

Southwest District 4-H Cloverleaf Project Achievement was held Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Willie J. Williams Middle School in Moultrie, Georgia. Decatur County 4-H’ers competed against sixteen counties and 250 students in various project areas.

Students participating in 4-H Project Achievement investigate a topic and prepare a demonstration or “illustrated talk” with posters and props. Scores are based on fluidity, presentation skills, and knowledge of the subject. Hutto Elementary School QUEST 4th graders and Grace Christian Academy 4th and 5th grade 4-H’ers competed in the Thursday evening contest.

Competitors representing Decatur County 4-H were Noor Abueisheh, 1st place in Fruits, Vegetables & Nuts; Tammy Benter, 2nd place in Photography/Videography; Ethan Boyett, 1st place in Environmental Science; Emily Brock, 2nd place in Marine & Coastal Ecology; Emeri Brown, 2nd place in Marine & Coastal Ecology; Sutton Carlisle, 3rd place in Dog Care & Training; Harrison Chastain, 3rd place Engineering & Mechanics; Anniston Dodd, 1st place Individual Sports; James Donaldson, 1st place Photography/Videography; Rosamund Glenn, 2nd place in Historic People; Charlie Griffin, 1st place in Team Sports; Kirksey Bell Hayes, 1st place in Veterinary Science; Olivia Head, 1st place in Marine & Coastal Ecology; Thomas Hufstetler, 2nd place in Veterinary Science; Kaylee Kale, 1st place in Wildlife; Samuel Keel, 2nd place in Poultry; Adalyn Logue, 1st place in Herpetology; Grayson Lokey, 1st place in Paleontology; Maci Lynn, 1st place in Swine; Christopher Moore, 2nd place in Herpetology; Sampson Moye, 1st place in Companion Animal Science; Griffin Roach, 2nd place in Team Sports; Jackson Sapp, 4th place in Poultry; Olivia Sapp, 1st place in Current People & Events; Aubrey Smith, 1st place in Agriculture Awareness; Sawyer Vickers, 1st place in Dog Care & Training; Alejandro Villegas, 1st place in Entomology; Ava Williams, 1st place in Dog Care & Training; Korvyn Williams, 1st place in Engineering & Mechanics; and Ayden Wolford, 1st place in Paleontology.

Decatur County Extension staff worked in-class with Mrs. Brandi Deal, Mrs. Kaylee Ketner and Ms. Janet Brock and their students to help with the Project Achievement process. In preparation for the contest and to highlight their public speaking skills, students prepared with speeches and visual aids participated in County Exhibition Days for parents, teachers and family members.

Georgia 4-H is preparing the next generation of leaders through 4-H Project Achievement.  4-H Project Achievement helps youth perform better in school related tasks, become self-directed learners and contributing members of society and creates work ready young adults.  Through the 4-H Project Achievement process youth explore an area of interest, gain knowledge and skills in the area and prepare presentations and evidence of learning.  This process builds not only skills related to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, but those directly related to Work Ready Georgia.
