L.D. Miller was born September 23, 1934, in Donalsonville, GA, the son of O.C. and Myrtice Yawn Miller. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School. L.D. proudly served his country in the United States Army. His tour took him to Germany for three years where he worked as a dental technician. When he returned home, L.D. worked at the Colonial Food Store for a period then spent 32 years with Terminex. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served with the love of his life, Martha Miller.

Known to many in Southwest Georgia for his work ethic and giving spirit, L.D. Miller lived the mantra, “My word is my bond.” If L.D. Miller said it, you could bank on it. He was always busy doing something in the yard, at the church, at work, or for someone else. He loved gardening and sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors. Every now and then he would slip off to do a little fishing.

Survivors include his wife of almost 54 years, Martha Lee Miller; his children, Tawana & Jimmy Drake of Donalsonville, Kathy & Irby Gilder of Cataula, and Kay & Jack Cothren of Albany; his brother John D. Miller of Iron City; his twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, L.D. was preceded in death by his sons, William Mills and Cliff Mills, and his brother, James Miller.

  4. I met Mr. LD the first time when he decided he needed a two-way radio system in his trucks and office. He decided on Motorola due to the extensive 450 MHz repeater system available in this area at the time. When the 800 MHz trunking system was installed in this area later that added interconnect to landline phone numbers, he upgraded to the trunking system. I was fortunate enough to have been able to install both of his radio systems. My wife worked at the then Citizens Bank and Trust and worked with one of his daughters on the teller line for many years. My wife’s name was Betty Sue.

  5. Mrs Martha and family, so sorry to hear of Mr LD passing. He was admired by all who knew him. Prayers for peace and comfort in the days to come!
