Gilbert Jordan “Gil” Murrah

March 30, 1945 – May 3, 2022

Gilbert Jordan Murrah, age 77, of Climax, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Whittaker officiating. Interment will be at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 5th, 2022 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com.

Gil was born Friday, March 30th, 1945 in Columbus, Georgia the son of M. Hadley Murrah and Gladys Gilbert Murrah. He graduated from Columbus High School, received his BS in Political Science from Columbus College, and his J.D. from Mercer Law School. He served in the US Coast Guard and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Gil practiced law with Lambert and Floyd and served as District Attorney. He opened the Gilbert J Murrah Law Office where he practiced for over 40 years.

He coached The Sharks travel ball baseball team for many years. Gil’s love of baseball was very evident in the love he showed his travel ball team and his dedication to attending Rion’s baseball games. His family came first in his life followed by Disney and baseball. He had a passion for feeding and taking care of all the stray cats of Water Street and birds of Decatur County. Gil loved his lunch group, who ate lunch together five days a week since 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Murrah; children, Rion Murrah (Devi) of Charleston, SC and Olivia Murrah of Bainbridge, GA; siblings, Woody Murrah, Peggy Murrah, and Laura Williams (Mitch); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Bert Murrah.

  2. OMGOODNESS!!! I loved working almost 16 years with this incredible man & his wife Anna being part of his family was a good time in my life. My children were treated almost as his own by Himself & Anna. My thoughts, love and PRAYERS are with y’all, ANNA RION & OLIVIA. I LOVE YOU!

    I will always remember his generosity to Leonard and myself. The trip to Disney and the travel baseball team. We had tons of fun watching the guys play ball!

  7. I remember him. I worked at the Social Security office in Columbus in 2015. I ended up being the one to call his number to my window that day, and I handled his business for him. That 30 minute (if that) conversation is the only interaction I ever had with him, but he still left an impression on me. I never forgot about him and now I regret not reaching out to him on my own time. I’d be happy to talk to any of his family some time.
