Decatur County 4-H Wins Big at State Modified Trap Target Challenge Weekend

The Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team competed in the 2021 State 4-H Modified Trap Target Challenge Weekend at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on May 8, 2021. Over 600 4-H students from 57 counties across Georgia participated in the shotgun match. Decatur County had a phenomenal day showcasing excellent marksmanship skills.

Decatur County 4-H Junior Team placed 1st in the middle school competition with a team score of 94 (out of 100). 1st place team members included: Nate Cannon, Kelan Newsome, Landon Harrell, Evan Hutto, and Marshall Harper. Congratulations to Nate Cannon for being named the 3rd highest junior individual.

Decatur County 4-H Senior Teams brought home 2nd place and 6th place honors for the high school division. 2nd place team members with a score of 98 (out of 100) included: Grayson Griffin, Blake Fagan, Kaden Smith, Cameron Bennett, and Michael Rich. 6th place team members with a score of 96 (out of 100) included: Logan Rich, Weston Powell, Brannon Parker, Hayden Martin, and Samuel Haire.

In order to attend the state match, all team members participate in a District Qualification Match where Juniors must break 16 out of 25 targets and Seniors must break 20 out of 25 targets to proceed to the state competition. Decatur County 4-H hosted a District Qualification Match at Commodore Industrial Park on April 10, 2021. Junior members that also participated in the state match by hitting 16 or more (out of 25) targets at the District Qualification Match were: Aidan Angle, Jaiden Belcher, Langston Bennett, Holten Dollar, Tyler Godwin, and Christopher Staples. Similarly, Senior members that participated in the state match by breaking 20 or more (out of 25) targets at the District Qualification Match were: Shelby Copeland and Jackson Davis.

2020-21 Decatur County 4-H Shotgun team members include Lance Adams, Aiden Angle, Jaiden Belcher, Cameron Bennett, Langston Bennett, Nate Cannon, Shelby Copeland, Parker Cox, Jackson Davis, Holten Dollar, Blake Fagan, Caden Godwin, Tyler Godwin, Grayson Griffin, Samuel Haire, Marshall Harper, Landon Harrell, Evan Hutto, Hayden Martin, Kelan Newsome, Brannon Parker, Weston Powell, Logan Rich, Michael Rich, Logan Roman, Gage Sellars, Kaden Smith and Christopher Staples. These 4-H students have been practicing each week since February under the guidance of dedicated volunteer coaches. Coaches for the Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team are Jule Powell, Todd Martin, Tim Cochran, Jeff Rich, Tony Cox and Lee Godwin.
