BPS is investigating stolen car batteries

Bainbridge Public Safety Officers are reporting that 3 separate incidents involving the theft of car batteries occurred in the overnight hours of Wednesday night and Thursday morning in the area of East Evans Street and Academy Street. All three vehicles were left unlocked. Officers are asking anyone in the area that sees anything suspicious to call 911 so it can be checked out. Also, any homeowners in the area who have video surveillance cameras installed on their property are asked to check them to see if they notice any suspicious activity taking place around vehicles parked in driveways. Again, these vehicles were all left UNLOCKED…please always lock your cars!

If anyone has information as to who may be stealing these vehicle batteries, please call Public Safety at 248-2038 and ask for Sgt. Tim McCain or Officer Leroy Akins. Callers may remain anonymous.

*So, why do people steal car batteries? Good question! It’s not for the charge. It’s for the metal inside of the batteries. Metal recycling companies buy batteries for the lead since 80% of lead used in the world is utilized in batteries. (America is the second leading region to use lead.)
