Barbara Jean Mann

Barbara Jean Mann, 88, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018.

Barbara Jean Mann was born in Charleston, WV on January 21, 1930 to Jasper L. Mace and Vivian Harkins Mace. Because of her mother’s death a few weeks after her birth she was raised by her aunt, Mrs. Bessie Fore. Mrs. Fore’s daughter, Reba, was like a sister to Barbara.

Barbara graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV in 1947. She married James W. Mann on July 28, 1946 and had three children, Marilyn Mann of Bainbridge, Bruce (Susan) Mann of Bainbridge, and Nancy (Chris) Cook of Cairo, GA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Apollo Cook, Kymberly Cook and Rebekah (Peter) Giambroni and three great-grandchildren: Danica Cook, Marisa Cook and Lydia Giambroni.

A resident of Bainbridge since 1965, Barbara was a homemaker but was also employed by the Georgia Dept of Natural Resources, Independent Insurance Agency, and Englehard Minerals and Chemicals where she worked for about 20 years before retiring in 1992.

She was an avid bowler and league participant. She and Jim enjoyed square dancing and were members of a local square dance group called “Dudes & Dolls”. Barbara loved African violets and was an expert at propagating and caring for them, as well as sharing them with friends and family. She also loved cats and always had at least one. She was a lover of Floyd Cramer piano music and had many albums and C.D.s

Barbara was a member of First Christian Church of Bainbridge for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a beloved grandson, Michael Thomas Mann.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Ivey Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church with Byron Miller, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers are Melvin Cloud, Melvin Donley, Apollo Cook, Dewayne Culverson, Greg Weathersby, Nicholas Weathersby and Peter Giambroni. Honorary pallbearers are the men of First Christian Church.
