Alvin Sidney Johnson was born November 11, 1926 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Morgan Outler Johnson and Susie Belle Howell Johnson. He married Sarah Cox in November of 1954 and they made their home in the Faceville Community. He was a member of Faceville Baptist Church and worked in maintenance at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee until his retirement. (He was actually retired longer than he worked even after a 30 year career.)

A love for the outdoors and an incredible skill in making turkey calls affirmed the nickname “Turkey” to be most appropriate. “Turkey” Johnson never met a stranger. He was a family man which included his church family. “Turkey” loved everyone and helped anyone he could. He was that person who would give you the shirt off his back. He was steadfast in his beliefs and stood strong on his faith and principles. All that knew him would agree he was a man of his word; if he said it, you could bank on it.

Survivors include his daughters, Alva Sue Johnson Basford and her husband, Bob, of Chattahoochee, FL and Marilyn E. Hall and her husband, Dick, of Grand Junction, CO; his sister, Irma Barber of Bainbridge, GA; his grandchildren, Brian Scott & BeBe Thompson, Michael J. Thompson and Hank Keels; and his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson, Ashton Thompson and Jaden Dibenedetto. In addition to his parents, “Turkey” was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Cox Johnson; his son, Norman Wayne Johnson; and his brothers, Leland Johnson and Wayne Johnson.
