On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at approximately 0231 hours, Bainbridge Public Safety Officer William Kornegay responded to the intersection of East River Road and Vada Road in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia, in reference to lines down.
Decatur-Grady E911 advised a concerned citizen called 911 and stated there were power lines down and a brush fire had started. Upon arrival Kornegay observed-the power lines laying in the ditch and a small brush fire around the utility pole; Kornegay immediately had E911 notify Georgia Power to respond to the scene. Kornegay observed the scene and determined the fire to be a safe distance from the downed power lines. Kornegay retrieved a water cannon from the rear passenger side compartment of Bainbridge Rescue 1 and extinguished the fire without further incident.
Kornegay observed tire marks traveling north onto East River Road, onto the shoulder where the guide wire for the utility pole had been ran over causing the power line to fall. Kornegay observed plastic vehicle parts on the ground at the scene. Kornegay was unable to determine the make or model of the vehicle from the parts.
There are currently no suspects at this time. This case is closed pending further evidence.
