On Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 1107 hours, Bainbridge Public Safety Sergeant LaDaric Jones was flagged down by a motorist in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia, in reference to damage to her vehicle.
Jones made contact with Tamya Barthel who stated she was turning onto Collier Street from Shotwell Street and a white male on a bicycle ran into the side of her car and damaged it. Jones noticed deep scratches and dents to the right front and rear doors of Barthel’s vehicle, a 2019 Toyota C-HR gray in color.
Jones made contact with the male subject on the bicycle in the KFC parking lot and identified himself as Mathew Mcelroy and stated he seen the vehicle turning and tried to stop but his bicycle did not have any brakes and couldn’t stop. Mcelroy stated he thought the driver kept going so he continued riding the bike trying to get to urgent care before they closed. Mcelroy stated he would pay for the damages or whatever he needed to do but it was not intentional.
