Jackie Dale Taylor was born April 8, 1947, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Francis Wilson. Jack was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and earned some college credits prior to proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with 25 years. Jack married Georgia Samersow in 1982, and in 1988 convinced her to move to Southwest Georgia where they were members of Decatur County Lions Club. He was a Christian by faith.
The USAF provided opportunities for Jack to live at various duty posts around the country and the world. He served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. Following his retirement, Jack landed at Kennedy Space Center and eventually worked a little at Amoco Fabrics & Fibers. His Master Sergeant ways were evident in every project and task he attempted.
Jack lived and breathed Lions Club for over 40 years. He served as District Governor and was recognized as the top recruiter for the district. Outside of regular meetings, he enjoyed participating in projects he knew benefitted those with visual impairments throughout Southwest Georgia. When he had a minute to spare, Jack enjoyed boating, fishing on Lake Seminole, and golfing.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Georgia Taylor; his children, Cindy Garvie (Chrissa Rhem) of Orlando, FL, Lora Spencer (Bill) and Scott Taylor (Kristy) all of Rosebud, AR; and his grandchildren, Dominick, Brady, Jacob, and Hezekiah. Jack was preceded in death by his mother.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
Have great memories of Jack. Last time I saw him was 1967 when we went to Columbus to take care of some business. Jack was never down and always had a positive attitude. They don’t make them like Jack anymore.
