Marvin Gladwell Strode, age 90, of Cairo, Georgia, passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Services for Mr. Strode will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, August 17, at Cairo Church of God, in Cairo, GA. Pastor Michael Pillow and Pastor DeWayne Atkinson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 3:00 pm.
Marvin Gladwell Strode was born on February 8, 1936, in Edmonton, Kentucky to Melvin Thomas Strode and Dovie Isabelle McCoy Strode. He married Hazel Althea Emert Strode who preceded him in death. Marvin was self-employed and owned a janitorial service. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed building. A member of the Cairo Church of God, he loved his church and church family. Marvin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will never be forgotten and will certainly be missed.
Marvin is survived by his children, Deborah Kay McCoy (Ronnie) of Clarksville, IN, Tina Rutland (Brian) of Cairo, David Lilly of Decatur, IL, Blake Rawlings of Bainbridge, GA; Marvetta Rhodes (Dean) of Long Creek, IL, Marvin David Strode of Glasgow, KY, Mitchell Steven Strode of Donalsonville, GA, Victoria Diane Weidle (Charlie) of Tucson, AZ, Dena Strode Creek (Phil) of Donalsonville, Edward Rawlings (Margaret) of Dawsonville, GA, and Linda Gilbert of Cairo; grandchildren, Heather McCoy (Gina) of Jefferson, IN, Rachel McCoy of Clarksville, IN, Courtney Ladd (Michael) of Whigham, GA, Josh Lilly, Tyler Lilly, and Chad Lilly all of Decatur, IL, Elizabeth White of Hillsboro, IL, Nick Rawlings (Kaylyn) and Chase Rawlings of Colquitt, GA, John David Strode of Germany, and Mykalin McNease (Aaron) of Pensacola, FL; Great-grandchildren Gavin and Madelynn (Courtney) of Whigham, GA, Carter and Willa (Rachel) of Clarksville, IN, Skylar (Heather) of Jeffersonville, IN, Sadie and Kylie of Colquitt, GA, and Lily (John David) of Berlin, Germany; his siblings, Melvin Strode, Jr. (Glenda) of Decatur, Illinois and Marie Harper of Glasgow, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Candice Morton and siblings, Jasper Ray Strode (Betty), James Strode (Margaret), Minnie Christine Strode Borkhardt, Charles Strode, Mary and Velma Strode, all of Illinois.
