Bearcats Claim Region 1-AAAA Title with Win Over Cairo

The Bainbridge Bearcats football team captured the 2022 Region Championship on Friday night with a decisive 53-20 win against the Cairo Syrupmakers. The win was Bainbridge’s fourth in a row and sixteenth straight region victory dating back to 2019.

The Syrupmakers took an early lead in the contest when quarterback Braylon Robinson connected with Tyree Kelly for a 39-yard touchdown pass.

The Bearcats bounced right back and knotted the game at seven when Javon Cox raced 45-yards to the endzone. Cairo retook the lead at the end of the 1st quarter. This time Robinson found running back, Amarion Byrden, down the sideline for a 22-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good leaving the score 13-7.

The next two quarters were all Bainbridge. The Bearcats scored five touchdowns and started to pull away with the game. Dontavious Broadnax scored from seven yards to tie the game at 13.

Antavious Murphy scored three times during the 2nd and 3rd quarter stretch to widen the Bearcat lead, 40-20.

Bearcat running back, Kennan Phillips, put the final touches on the game with three rushing touchdowns including one from 57 yards out.

With the win, Bainbridge won its third straight region title. This is the first time in school history that has ever been done.

The Bearcats will take on the Baldwin High School Braves on Friday, Nov. 11 at Centennial Field for round one of the 2022 GHSA 4A Playoffs. Tournament.
