Family, friends, and football: what else could anyone ask for. Friday night was Homecoming 2022 in Bainbridge, and the home team didn’t disappoint. The Bearcats dominated from the opening kickoff in route to a 59-7 victory over the Westover Patriots. Bainbridge is now 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in Region 1AAAA.

Bainbridge opened the game with a perfectly executed onside kick. Two plays later, quarterback Bo Smith dialed up his own number and dashed 22-yards into the endzone. Tyre added the PAT and just like that, Bainbridge was up 7-0.

“Starting fast is always important but not only do we want to start fast, we want to finish,” said Littleton. “We had a lot of kids getting reps and that’s huge both for the health of our starters and to be able to give younger guys experience for the future.”

After a quick three and out by the Patriots, the Bearcat offense went back to work. Bo Smith connected with Keena Phillips for a 36-yard touchdown that stretched the score to 14-0.

On their next possession, Antavious Murphy took a pitch around left end and scampered 35-yards to the endzone.

With the defense playing well, they forced another Westover punt. This time Smith riffled a 65-yard pass, hitting Murphy in stride to put the home team up 28-0 in the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same from the Bearcats. This time Smith and Murphy hooked up for a 57-yard touchdown pass and catch. After a Nicholas Tyre field goal, the Bearcats had a 38-7 lead. With only 11 seconds remaining in the half, running back Keenan Phillips caught a swing pass out of the backfield for the final Bearcat touchdown of the half.

The Bearcats added two more scores after halftime. The final score: Bearcats 59, Patriots 7.

Next week the Bearcats will travel to Columbus to take on Shaw where they look to improve to 2-0 in their region.
