Runoff is June 21; Advanced voting begins June 13

The primary runoff for both the Democratic Party and Republican Party will be Tuesday, June 21, and all 10 voting precincts in Decatur County will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Republican Party ballot has only one race — the U.S. House of Representatives District 2 race between Jeremy Hunt and Chris West.

The Democratic Party ballot has four statewide races, which are the following:

  • Lieutenant Governor – Charlie Bailey vs. Kwanza Hall;
  • Secretary of State – Dee Dawkins-Haigler vs. Bee Nguyen;
  • Commissioner of Insurance – Raphael Baker vs. Janice Laws Robinson;
  • Commissioner of Labor – William “Will” Boddie Jr. vs. Nicole Horn.

There will only be one week of advanced voting, which begins on June 13 at 8 a.m. and ends on Friday, June 17, at 6 p.m. There is no Saturday voting this runoff. Advanced voting will be only at the Elections Office at the Courthouse Annex, 122 W. Water St., downtown Bainbridge.

The hours for advanced voting and the dropbox are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The state constitution requires voters must receive the same political party ballot in the runoff as they received in the primary. If you didn’t vote in the primary or requested a non-partisan ballot in the primary, then the voter may decide which ballot to vote on in the runoff.

The last day to submit an application for an absentee ballot is this Friday, June 10.

Absentee ballots for those on the elderly or disabled rollover list were scheduled to have been mailed on Tuesday, June 7. Early tabulation will be on Election Day beginning at 4 p.m. Those participating in early tabulation must be sequestered. Logic and accuracy testing is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m.

If you would like to receive an absentee ballot for the Nov. 8 General Election, the earliest you may apply is Aug. 22, 2022.
