Children in the Adult Age Group

James H. Cagle

“And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt. 18: 1-4 KJV).

I have noticed and often commented on how there are so many children in the adult age group. By that I mean people who have the age and bodies of adults, but who behave like children. They’ve kept their belly’s full, but their hearts empty. Their bodies developed naturally, but their mind didn’t due to their negligence. I know plenty of adult males who are not men. I know plenty of adult females who are not women. King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes that of a thousand males that he knew he only found one man and didn’t find a single woman among all the females he knew. I know many adults who get upset when you have to remind them of their responsibilities and tell them what to do. I kindly say, “If you don’t like being told what to do, grow up and learn to do it without being told.” But childishness in adults is what will mark the last days and make those days perilous. In other word’s narcissism, which is nothing more than adults behaving like children, will be the mark of the generation in the end time.

It’s normal for a child to act like a child, but it’s not normal for an adult to act like a child. These narcissists are proud, boastful, independent, self-sufficient people, who are lovers of pleasure (fun) rather than lovers of God.

And yet the Christian, who is a child of God, is to possess certain characteristics of a child even as they continue to mature, and are transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. A Christian is a child of God who is to learn to act, behave, and respond to life like a mature adult in Christ.

As a child of God we cannot to be proud and self-sufficient, but humble and completely dependent upon the Lord, for it is only by His gifts, grace and blessings that we mature into men and women of God.
