Carter Arts & Lecture Series Begins in Bainbridge September 27

BAINBRIDGE—The words of legendary statesman Winston Churchill will ring out on Oct. 19 in the Kirbo Center at ABAC Bainbridge as a part of the Carter Arts & Lecture Series presented by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Now in its eighth season, the series enhances the educational experience of ABAC students and the community by bringing compelling speakers, distinguished authors, and performing artists to ABAC Bainbridge.

Black Market Trust opens the series at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Kirbo Center.  The five world-class musicians of Black Market Trust will deliver some of the best songs ever written from the Great American Songbook.  Intricate vocal harmonies will make for an enchanting kickoff for the series.

Playwright and actor Andrew Edlin presents a one-man play titled “Churchill” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, also at the Kirbo Center.  Edlin’s powerful performance runs the gamut of the charismatic statesman, pulling from speeches, private revelations, comedic stories, and brilliant commentary.

Poet Paisley Rekdal brings modern poetry to life at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8 at The Library at ABAC Bainbridge.  She is the author of 10 books including the new collection of essays titled, “The Night My Mother Met Bruce Lee.”

Members of the National Players have delivered masterful presentations for over seven decades.  They will do it again on Feb. 7, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Kirbo Center when they present “A Raisin in the Sun,” an award-winning drama which explores the challenges of an African American family dreaming big on the south side of Chicago in the 1950s.

Mix up some jazz, gospel, and soul, and the result is the Joe Gransden Quintet featuring Robin Latimore.  Timeless favorites are in store for members of the audience, who will find it easy to sway along during the performance which is set for March 8 at 6 p.m. at the Kirbo Center.

Sensational saxophonist Derek Brown culminates the series with his one-of-a-kind sound on April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Kirbo Center.  Joining Brown on stage will be the always talented musicians of the ABAC Jazz Ensemble.
