Decatur County 4-H Awards Banquet

Decatur County 4-H members, families, friends, volunteers and county leaders gathered on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Cloud Livestock Facility for the Decatur County 4-H Awards Banquet. UGA Extension staff were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Decatur County 4-H’ers from this past year.

Junior and Senior 4-H officers led the event by recognizing members who received pins, certificates and ribbons. Those honored were participants in Project Achievement, Forestry Judging, Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging, Archery, Shotgun and Livestock Show Team. Graduating 4-H seniors, Corbin Austin, Cameron Bennett, Hayden Martin, Weston Powell and Omarion Smart, were also given graduation cords for their years in 4-H.

Additionally, the 9th Annual Mitchell May Memorial Scholarship was presented to Weston Powell who is a six year member of the Decatur County shotgun team. The scholarship is given in memory of University of Georgia County Extension Agent Mitchell May, one of the founding coaches of the Decatur County shotgun team. Award selection is based on the applicant’s scholastic achievement and extracurricular activities, as well as the submission of a two-page essay. Jane McDonald, sister of May, presented the scholarship to Weston, son of Julian and Natasha Powell.

Decatur County 4-H is thankful for the support of its volunteers, school partners and community affiliates. They are instrumental in the success of Decatur County youth. We appreciate their invaluable expertise and opportunities that they provide.
