Betty Jo Barrett was born September 30, 1932, in Grady County, Georgia. Her parents, Thomas Littleton Barrett and Atherlone Burnum Barrett, preceded her in death. July 1, 1950, Betty married the love of her life, J. N. Carter. She and J. N. have enjoyed 68 years together. Betty ran a day care in her home from 1965 to 1974. Many, many local children enjoyed her wonderful food and loving care. Mrs. Carter has been a member of Eastside Baptist Church since 1950. Everything Betty did, she gave it her all. If it was G. A.’s at church or Girl Scouts, she made it special for everyone involved. She started a quilting group at Eastside and the senior adult ministry, Keenagers. Betty was an excellent cook. She was always ready to prepare for anyone, whatever the need, and whatever the number of hungry people. Betty was a member of the Pilot Club of Cairo. She was an accomplished seamstress. It could be Easter dresses for her girls or costumes for any church activity. Maybe it was making puppets for a church puppet ministry or providing alterations for a local clothing store, Betty was ready to sew, cook, decorate, whatever was necessary. A loving mother, wife, and nanna, Betty Jo Carter will be deeply missed by her many, many friends and the family she loved so very much.
