J.D. Shoemaker, 86, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Whigham United Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy P. Weldon officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with his grandsons and great-grandsons serving as active pallbearers.

J.D. Shoemaker was born March 18, 1932 in Whigham, GA, the son of J.T. Shoemaker and Ruthel Kelly Shoemaker. He married Betty Duncan. J.D. and Betty made their home in Bainbridge until 2014 when they moved to Cumming, GA. He retired as a tree farmer. J.D. was a member of Whigham United Methodist Church.
No one worked harder than J. D. Shoemaker. His schedule was sun up to sun down, seven days a week. Regardless of his work hours or the task at hand, he always made time to help anyone in need. His love for others was unconditional. His family and especially his grandchildren were the evergreens in the forest of his heart.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Betty Duncan Shoemaker; his sons, Ed Shoemaker and his wife, Dixie, of Cumming, GA and Tom Shoemaker and his wife, Jackie, of Boca Raton, FL; his grandchildren, Stacey & Tim, Doug & Ashley, Shaun & Stephanie, Chad, Shannon & Jacy, and Logan; and his great-grandchildren, Seth, Daniel, Abby, Hadlee, Presley, Jordan and Ava. In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert “Red” Shoemaker and Erlene Shoemaker.
