Betty Jean Taylor Hornsby, age 92, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Services for Mrs. Hornsby will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 13, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Humphries will officiate. The interment will be held in Oak City Cemetery where she will be buried beside her husband, Murry. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
Betty Jean Taylor Hornsby was born March 5, 1934, in Meigs, Georgia to John Nathaniel Taylor and Essie Ellen Bowen Taylor. She was a great mom and enjoyed being a housewife. Betty loved to cook, loved to entertain, and enjoyed long walks. She always enjoyed “going to see the lights” down at the river during the holidays. She married Murry “Buddy” Hornsby and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their motor home. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge. She was much loved and will be dearly missed.
Betty Jean is survived by her sons, Rodney Timothy Holt of Nokomis, Florida and John Craig Holt of North Port, Florida; stepdaughters, Linda Hornsby Benford (Ron) of Jacksonville, Judi Hornsby Nichols (Bill) of Bainbridge, and Jan Godwin of Attapulgus, Georgia; sister, Edna Earle McLeod of Palatka, Florida; grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Holt of Sarasota, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Warren Raymond (W.R.) Taylor, Odis Taylor, Irma Christine Taylor, Gladys Louise Taylor, James Webster (Buddy) Taylor, and Mary Frances Taylor.
The family sends their heartfelt appreciation and love to caregiver Emma Frazier, for the excellent care and kindness shown to their beloved mother, grandmother, and sister.
