Janice Cutchens was born December 18, 1946, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Jim & Wilma Barfield Cutchens. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1964, and went on to complete her coursework for licensure as a cosmetologist. While in Atlanta at beauty school, Janice met Charles Cooper. They married in 1965 and made their home in Bainbridge. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

No one ever doubted the spirited red head who took the bull by the horns at a young age. Known to family and close friends as “Jurnice”, she was set in her ways and determined. (She always got the job done too.) When she cut her eyes and snickered, you knew things were about to get good. Jurnice loved to laugh, and her witty comments seemed to come out of nowhere, sometimes at the most inappropriate times. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Judge Judy and Wheel of Fortune daily. When they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, we know Jurnice was MamaWilma’s apple…hair, makeup, nails, clothes…always dressed to the nines, cleaning house, and working in the yard. Jurnice was tighter than a tick but loved with everything she had.

Survivors include her children, Kimberly Cooper of Bainbridge and Brandon Charles Cooper (Patricia) of Thomasville; her grandchildren, McKenzie Brown Phillips (Chason), Gabrielle Valyn Brown, and Jillian Reese Brown; her great-grandson due in June, Cooper Brock Phillips; her brother, Jimmy Cutchens (Beverly); her brother-in-law, Ed Cannington; her nephews & nieces, Trey Cannington, Dana Cutchens Bryant, Christi Cutchens Murray, and Zach West; her aunt and close friend, Betty B. Shores; her friends since childhood, Bobbie Poitevint Harrell & Jackie Poitevint Tyson; and her sister-in-law & longtime confidant, Flora Humphrey. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, Charles M. Cooper; her sister, Patty Cutchens Cannington; and her niece, Jill Cannington Bennett.
