Enid Jackson Borders

October 19, 1937 – February 27, 2024

Enid Jackson Borders, age 86, of Panama City Beach, Florida, passed away on February 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents James William Jackson and Josephine Parham Jackson, her brothers James, Mason, Royce, Billy, and Carl Douglas Jackson and her sisters Geraldine McCarty, Mary Jo Clark, and Catherine Smith.

Enid is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ernest H. Borders, her daughters Cindy Borders, Donna Stephens (husband Alvin) and Lori Jeter (fiancé Challen Fischer). Also surviving is Enid’s brother Charles Jackson and her grandsons Jonathan Merchant, Alex Fleming, Marcus White, Evan Jeter, and Lane Jeter, along with three great grandchildren. Also surviving, Jan Simmons, a special, loving ‘adopted’ daughter.

Enid was born October 19, 1937, in Attapulgus, Georgia. She attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro where she met Ernie; they married in 1957. Enid was a homemaker and was proficient in cooking, keeping house and sewing for her girls. She and Ernie were active in church with the girls in Thomaston, Georgia, where they served as chaperones and youth leaders at the First Methodist Church. Enid also adored caring for the babies in the church nursery.

Enid was known for her kindness, sweetness and willingness to include others. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in Thomaston, during the girls growing-up years. Enid was stylish and was good at clothes shopping, which she enjoyed doing with her girls. She played basketball in the church league in Thomaston for UMC and lettered in basketball at Attapulgus High School. She grew up working tobacco and pumping gas at her father’s store, Jackson & Sons in Attapulgus. She has shared many interesting stories about growing up in a family with six brothers and 3 sisters.

For Enid’s family and many friends, who will greatly miss her, a visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 PM, 2024, at the Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home, 502 South Scott Street, in Bainbridge Georgia. A graveside service will follow at the Attapulgus City Cemetery at 2:30 PM, in Attapulgus, Georgia. Pastor John Dallas will officiate.
