4-H Project Achievement Competition

Southwest District 4-H Cloverleaf Project Achievement was held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Mossy Creek Middle School in Kathleen, Georgia. Decatur County 4-H’ers competed against twenty-three counties and 300 students in various project areas.

Students participating in 4-H Project Achievement investigate a topic and prepare a demonstration or “illustrated talk” with posters and props. Scores are based on fluidity, presentation skills, and knowledge of the subject. 4-H’ers can also choose to compete in a food lab where they have one hour to assemble food following food safety guidelines and food nutrition guidance. Hutto Elementary School 5^th grade, Bainbridge Middle School 6^th grade and Grace Christian Academy 6th 4-H’ers competed in the Saturday contest.

Competitors representing Decatur County 4-H were Azriel Bell, 1^st place- Cat Care; Lyric Keaton, 1^st place-Food for Health and Sport; Kylee Tucker, 2^nd place-Dog Care and Training; Londyn Lawrence, 1^st place-Marine and Coastal Ecology; Kenan Williams, 1^st place-Paleontology; Corbin Keaton – 1^st place-General Recreation; Hailey Taylor, 3^rd place-Historic People; Amberly Griner, 1^st place-Freshwater Fish; Alexis Hicks, 1^st place-Clothing and Textiles; Jade Edmond, 1^st place-Fruits, Vegetables and Nuts; Madelyn Cohen, 1^st place-Sports team; Quinn Moore, 3^rd place-Dog Care and Training, Skye Clements, 2^nd place-General Science; Lauryn Rambo, 3^rd place-Food Fare food lab; Riley Ann Groom, 1^st place-Historic Places and Events; Calhie Jane Rentz, 1^st place-Ag Awareness; and Lainee Oliver, 1^st place-Individual Sports. Unable to attend the contest was Jasiiah Shaw in the Current People and Events category.

Georgia 4-H is preparing the next generation of leaders through 4-H Project Achievement.  4-H Project Achievement helps youth perform better in school related tasks, become self-directed learners and contributing members of society and creates work ready young adults.  Through the 4-H Project Achievement process youth explore an area of interest, gain knowledge and skills in the area and prepare presentations and evidence of learning.  This process builds not only skills related to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, but those directly related to Work Ready Georgia.
