Ophelia Stevens Folsom, age 83, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Folsom will be held Sunday, December 31, 3:00 p.m., at Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, Georgia. The Rev, Jim Weaver will officiate. Tracy Asbell, Patrick Asbell, Dustin Starling, Brian Solano, George Johnson, and Duane Davis will serve as pallbearers. The Young at Heart Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The service will conclude at the church. There will be a private burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Folsom’s family will receive friends at 2:00 before the service.
Ophelia was born May 13, 1940, in Cairo, Georgia, to Jessie James Stevens and Myrtice Sawyer Stevens. She married Wilburn Vernon Folsom, who passed away in 2011. Ophelia and Wilburn shared 51 years together. Ophelia loved taking care of her family and home. She never met a stranger and loved to talk. A faithful member of Pine Level Baptist Church, she took every opportunity to share her faith. She wanted her life to be an example of Christ-like service.
Mrs. Folsom is survived by her daughter Sharon Asbell (Ronnie); sister, Kay Harrell (Steve), grandchildren, Tracy Asbell (Lorrie), Patrick Asbell (Mackenzie Cannington), and Brittany Starling (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Waylon Asbell, Blakely Asbell, and Sadie Starling; daughter-in-law, Loretta Folsom, and sister-in-law, Connie Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Annette Freeman, Jimmy Stevens, James Stevens, and Jesse Stevens, and son Gary Folsom.
