Betty Nichols Hinson-Jackson

August 14, 1940 – November 25, 2023

Betty Nichols Hinson-Jackson, age 83, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held beginning at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Melissa Traver officiating. A graveside interment will follow at Tallahassee Memory Gardens with grandsons serving as active pallbearers. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com.

Betty was born August 14, 1940, in Tallahassee, Florida, the daughter of Johnnie Nichols and Ora Ellen Ashburn Nichols. She graduated from Leon County High School with the class of 1958. She received her Bachelors of Education from Columbus State University in 1988, she was Suma Cum Laude. Betty worked at Hutto Middle School in Bainbridge, Georgia for 12 years, teaching math and science. She was also known for her involvement with First United Methodist Church, with the choir and the Women’s Club. She was a Bainbridge College Ambassador providing campus tours, hosting visiting dignitaries, and assisting with on campus functions. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Betty was a wonderful host, she loved her friends and family to visit and provide meals and activities at her home and pond house. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and visiting with her siblings. She was also known for collecting birdhouses, gardening, and caring for her pet birds.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Hinson, II (Beth) of Acworth, GA, Marlowe Hinson (Pamela) of Brunswick, GA, Dr. Oscar Jackson, Jr (Vickie) of Thomasville, GA, and Amy Price (Charles “Bert’) of Tallahassee, FL; daughter-in-law, Shelly Hinson of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Janna Edwards (Donn), Meghan Deese (Carl), Ronald Hinson, III, Kenan Hinson, Josie Hinson, Howard “Ty” Hinson, Jacob Hinson, Andrea Thompson, Olivia Thompson, Mollie Hinson, Jonathan Hinson, Cole Hinson, Jack Hinson, Marlee Hinson, Oscar “Trey” Jackson, III (Hananel), Kate Harden (Patrick), Kelly Jackson (Caroline), Hanna Cate Van Brunt (Thomas), Danielle Price, and Charles Price, III; siblings, Joyce Alexander, Doug Nichols (Royce), Howard Nichols (Barbara), and Mary Ellen Powell; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ronald Hinson, Sr. and Dr. Oscar Jackson; sons, John Hinson and Alan Jackson; and siblings, Eldred Nichols, Ouida Allen, and Cleta Griffith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John G. Hinson Scholarship Fund, Bainbridge High School, 1 Bearcat Boulevard, Bainbridge, GA 39819.

The Jackson family has entrusted the arrangements to Ivey Funeral Home, 502 S. Scott Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.
