Lottie Jean Ritter Givens

October 3, 1939 – August 31, 2023

Lottie Jean Ritter Givens, age 83, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Services for Jean will be held Thursday, September 7, 11:00 a.m., at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home. The Rev. Dewitt Phillips will officiate. Interment will follow in Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery. Shane Rowan, David Cobb, Devin Hayes, Jason Harris, Robert Eubanks, and Hunter Rowan will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 10:00 am.

Lottie Jean Ritter Givens was born October 3, 1939, in Bainbridge, Georgia to Vernaway Ritter and Ida Mae Strickland Ritter. Jean was smart, friendly, and motivated. She worked 27 years for Bell South as a switching equipment installation technician in the Atlanta area. After her retirement, she worked for Byers Engineering in Atlanta and Miami, Florida. Moving back to South Georgia, Jean worked as a money center associate at Walmart for 13 years. She loved to read and work in her flowers. Jean was very community minded and was a very active member of the Kiwanis Club, Pilot Club, and the Communications Workers of America. She was a faithful member of Attapulgus Baptist Church until her health began to fail her. Her children say she was tough but fair, a strong, independent women and very feisty. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always available for her siblings and extended family. Jean was always thinking of others and ready to lend a helping hand. Jean Givens will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Ms. Givens is survived by her children, Norman Ray Rowan, Jr. (Suzanne Waters) of Climax, Georgia, Cynthia Jean Sitton of Thomasville, Georgia, and Claudia Michelle Hayes (Michael) of Tifton, Georgia; grandchildren, Shane Rowan (Dana), Devin Hayes, Nicole Rowan, Christina Sitton, and Brittany Harris (Jason); great-grandchildren, Hunter Rowan, Morgan Harrell, MaKayla Rowan, Shelby Rowan, Nate Hollingsworth, Breanna Hollingsworth, Tay-lee Hayes, Kiam Hayes, Allison Harris, Bradyn Harris, Magnolia Grace Sitton, Ranger Hayes, and Paisli Hayes; siblings, Mary Ann Ritter Green of Bainbridge, Wayne Ritter of Havana, Florida, and Malcolm Ritter of Bainbridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sue, Vernon, Johnny, Townzie, Jimmy, and Ray Ritter.
