Raymond Edward Holmes

December 12, 1940 – July 22, 2023

Mr. Raymond Edward Holmes, age 82, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Camellia Gardens of Life in Thomasville, Georgia. A private, family service will be held with a burial in Midway Church Cemetery.

Ray Holmes was born December 12, 1940, in Calumet City, Illinois to Ivan Raymond Holmes and Anna Mary Beil Holmes. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing. When at home he liked baking and gardening. August 19, 1988, he married Wynette. Their beautiful, blended family was a huge source of enjoyment, pride, and love for Ray. He served as a scout master for many years and had 6 Eagle Scouts come from the troop he led. Ray started as an apprentice meat cutter and worked his way to master meat cutter. After 25 years he retired from Ira Higdon Grocery Company as Meat Director.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Wynette Holmes of Cairo, Georgia; children, Robin Halvorson (Martin) of Havelock, North Carolina, Randy Holmes (Chris) of Loganville, Georgia, Dennis Kosciw of Marianna, Florida, David Kosciw (Diane) of Cairo, Angie Elkins (Danny) of Camilla, Georgia, and Phillip Kosciw of Cairo; grandchildren, Mandy Tolbert (Spencer) of Madison, Georgia, Lauren Holmes of Loganville, Ericka Green (Rob) of Camilla, Holden Kosciw (Liza) of Coolidge, Georgia, Eli Kosciw of Valdosta, Georgia, Amelia Faircloth (Bo) of Camilla, Luke Elkins (Alexis) of Camilla, Tim Pearson of Cairo, Michael Pearson (Leah) of Cairo, and Kaitlyn Kosciw Lopez (Sebastian) of Columbus, Ohio; great grandchildren, Jaken Green, Ellie Rae Green, Emmarie Kosciw, Holden Kosciw, Jr., Tylan Rae Kosciw, Maeleigh Elkins, Wyatt Faircloth, Westin Faircloth, Levi Tolbert, Tibby Tolbert, Brooklyn Pearson, and Preston Pearson; his sisters, Julia Elliott of Muscatine, Iowa, Pat Pritchard of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Margie Beard of Cushing, Oklahoma, and Linda Cheline (Jack) of Kewanee, Illinois; special cousin, Maryann Frystzah of Hammond, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Johnny.
