Harvin Hoover Black, 94, of Thomasville, Ga. passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 resting comfortably at his home surrounded by his wife and family.
The visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 18 at Ivey Funeral Home in Bainbridge, Ga. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19 at Ivey Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Smith officiating. Interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Garden.
He was born February 7, 1929 in Baker County, Ga. to parents Ennis and Levenia Black. He attended school in Baker County but left school at an early age to run the family farm in Bainbridge, Ga. Harvin’s older brothers were serving in the military and his father needed his help on the farm. He served as a city council member in Bainbridge, Ga. in the 1970s. He later moved to Thomasville, Ga. and retired from Flav-O-Rich Milk Company as Branch Manager. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, won many bass tournaments and was a founding member of the Bainbridge Bass Club. He was a member of the West Bainbridge United Methodist Church.
Harvin was preceded in death by his parents, eight of twelve siblings and his children, Libby Willis and Johnathan Black.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Black, his children: Martha Ponder (Donald) of Whigham, Ga. Carol Clark of Perry, Fla., Threasa Hall (Greg) of Bainbridge, Ga., Levenia Merkison (Doyle) of Fleming Island, Fla., Tony Black (Cheryl) of Whigham, Ga., Kathy Maxwell (Mark) of Whigham, Ga. Teresa Dunn (Todd) of Bainbridge, Ga., Daphney King of Thomasville, Ga. and Desi Glover (Harold) of Pelham, Ga.. His grandchildren and spouses: Harvin Willis, Kim Perry (Robbie), Roger Willis, Brock Ponder (Allison), Stephen Ponder (Ashley), Stacey McMillan, Chris Clark (Robert Whitney), Daryl Hall (Celia), Drew Hall (Amanda), Kristin Smith (Adam), Damian Merkison (Andi), Sarah Beth Black, Taylor Black, Jordan Ward (Jon), Justin Maxwell (Ansley), Malori Glover (Josh), Mattie Dunn, Morgan Boone (AJ), Bailey King, Kendall King and Jada Hill (Gage). His sisters: Audrey Faircloth of Bainbridge, Ga., Othelia Suggs of Donalsonville, Ga., Tammie Taylor of Donalsonville, Ga. and his brother-in-law, Billy Rehberg of Thomasville, Ga. He had 22 great grandchildren and five great, great
grandchildren at the time of his death.
