Hazel Eloise Hersey was born October 8, 1933, in Seminole County, GA, the daughter of James & Kate Turnage Hersey. She lived in Southwest Georgia her entire life and was a member of West Street Baptist Church.

Hazel was always “busy as a bee”. She enjoyed tending her flower beds and working in the yard. She spent many years in the cafeteria at Bainbridge High School and certainly was a hit with her famous milkshakes. Her children and grandchildren could swell her heart with their mere presence. Hazel loved watching them come into their own, start their own families, and continue her legacy.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Wyman Dean; her children, Brandon (Tracy) Whittaker of Bainbridge, Gail (James) Palmer of Tuscaloosa, AL, Wanda (Bobby) Merkison of Cumming, GA, and Beverly (Ken) Kreps of Soddy Daisy, TN; her sister, Patricia (Richard) Green of Monticello, MS; her eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Whittaker, and her siblings, Russell Hersey, Charles Hersey, Lucretia Perry, and Geneva Sullivan.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
