God’s Word is Settled in Heaven

By James H. Cagle

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119: 89 KJV).

The word “settled” means “to bring to rest; to establish or secure permanently.” In our ever-changing world nothing is established or secured permanently.

But God’s Word is forever settled or established and secured permanently in Heaven. Nothing in Heaven changes because Heaven is perfect and there are no attacks made on the Word of God there.

This Word of God that is forever settled in Heaven is His spoken and then written Word that was delivered to man and that is so important and relevant to mankind in knowing God and His will. God’s Word remains the same today as when it was first settled in Heaven. God has not made any changes in it nor has He made any corrections. And His plans for the world are being fulfilled exactly as His Word says they would.

Not only has God preserved His Word in Heaven, He has also preserved His Word on earth in the Authorized King James Bible. God will preserve His Word for the sake of His people so they can know Him and witness for Him but also so the sinner is without excuse and cannot say on Judgment day he didn’t know God’s will.

The KJV Bible hasn’t changed since its first publication, though it has gone through several transliterations (the changing of the spelling of words). There have been many new modern translations of the Bible that if people believe they are the Word of God, would mean God’s Word is not settled and has changed, because they are all different from the KJV.

God doesn’t change (Mal. 3: 6). He is the “same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Heb. 13: 8). His Word that reveals Him to man therefore cannot change and must be the same yesterday, today and forever. God is the unchanging Living Spiritual Reality that corresponds to His unchanging inspired, inerrant written Word.

Though we may change and walk away from God, because His Word is unchanging and He is unchanging we know we can find our way back to Him through His Word. And this has been true for every generation.

  1. This is a Scripture that has resonated with me and has given me hope. It is one that I meditate on frequently. I enjoyed this article and would like to quote an excerpt (second to last paragraph) in my podcast called “The Women’s Bible Study Studio”. It is a amateur’s first attempt, but timely and relevant. Thank you for your response to my request.
