WHO NEEDS TO REGISTER?
• Any child that is not currently enrolled as a PreK student in the Decatur County School System MUST be screened before he/she can be enrolled in public kindergarten.
• Any PK student who is not currently attending their zone school must register for Kindergarten at their zone school on March 21st.
• PK students currently enrolled and attending PK at their zone school do not need to attend Kindergarten Registration.
Kindergarten Registration/Screening will be held on March 21st at each of the two primary schools. A child must be five (5) years old ON or BEFORE September 1, 2023, in order to be eligible for public kindergarten.
A parent/guardian MUST complete a Kindergarten Registration packet in order to enroll the child at the school for which he/she is zoned. Any questions concerning correct zone can be answered at the individual schools or at the Board of Education Bus Shop.
In addition to their child, parents will need to bring the child’s certified Birth Certificate, Immunization Certificate, Social Security Card, and proof of residence to the registration. Acceptable proofs of residence include current rent receipt, power bill, water bill, or, if living with a relative, a notarized letter with one of the previously named bills attached. If a child has not completed his/her immunization, the Health Department should be contacted. Please note that the completion of the Hepatitis B series (3 doses) and Varicella (2 doses) are part of the required immunization.
The registration and/or screening will be conducted between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on March 21st at each primary school. Parents should report to the school’s office. Parents will not need to make an appointment for the screening.
