Elizabeth (Lizzie) Spivey Garrette

February 24, 1960 – December 14, 2022

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Spivey Garrette, age 62, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at her home in Quitman, Georgia. An “Irish” wake will be held Tuesday, December 20, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at The Foundry, 120 S. Broad Street, in Cairo, Georgia.

Elizabeth Spivey was born February 24, 1960, in Landstuhl, Germany, to John Henry Spivey, Jr. and Ruth Ellen Baker Spivey.   Her parents have preceded her in death.

He life partner, Jerry Hankinson, also preceded her in death. Lizzie was full of life, adventurous and determined, with the soul of an artist. She loved to craft the most unique decorations and celebrations that many would soon wish to copy. Most would expect the joy of her life to be her only child, Jeremy, but those who knew her knew the truth. The spot of number one, belonged to her beloved bulldog, Bella. Lizzie devoted herself to her family and her career. She loved deeply, and her skills were unmatched. She worked for many years in the office of the Probate Court in Grady County before moving to the Brooks County Probate Court in Quitman, Georgia. Lizzie was independent and brave; a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends, as the world shines dimmer without her in it.

Lizzie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Felicia Hankinson of Lake Park, Georgia; siblings, Jane Spivey and John Henry Spivey, III, both of Cairo; granddaughter, Nora Elyse Hankinson; and niece, Nicole Faith Spivey-Gilpin.
