Hayes Named Grand Champion Market Lamb

Decatur County 4-H members recently exhibited lambs and cattle during the first weekend of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia.

Decatur County 4-H livestock exhibitor, Rachel Hayes, exhibited the 2022 Grand Champion Market Lamb at the Georgia Junior National Market Lamb Show held during the Georgia National Fair. Rachel is a 12th grade student at Bainbridge High School and is the daughter of Brian and Lindsey Hayes. Rachel was named the 12th grade champion showman and exhibited the Division 4 Champion. Rachel also had lambs that placed 1st and 2nd in their respective black-face classes. Scott Ross Hayes, 6th grade 4-H’er at Grace Christian Academy was named 6th grade champion showman. Scott Ross earned the opportunity to compete against showmanship winners from 6th through 12th grade to compete for the title of Master 4-H Showman. Scott Ross Hayes was named the 2022 Market Lamb Master 4-H Showman. Scott Ross exhibited a wether that placed first in class. Also exhibiting lambs during the Georgia National Fair were Charlie Griffin and Kirksey Bell Hayes. Charlie, 4-H’er at Hutto Elementary School, placed 4th in 3rd grade showmanship and placed 1st in class. Kirksey Bell Hayes, GCA 4-H’er, placed 5th in class and 7th in 3rd grade showmanship.

Rachel Hayes, Bainbridge High School 4-H’er, exhibited the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2022 Georgia Junior National Market Lamb Show held during the 2022 Georgia National Fair.

Mr. Chase McPhaul from Texas served as the judge for the market lamb show and evaluated the exhibitors in showmanship for the 2022 Georgia Junior National Market Lamb Show.

Maggie Miller, a 5th grade student at Grace Christian Academy, exhibited cattle at the Georgia National Fair Market Beef Show and Heifer Show. Maggie was named 4th Overall Market Beef, as well as Reserve Champion Crossbred Market Beef. Maggie also placed first with her Charolais heifer and was additionally named Reserve Champion Charolais Heifer. Maggie, daughter of Joey and Jessica Miller, placed fourth in 5th grade showmanship at the Georgia National Fair Cattle Show.

Ms. Cheramie Viator from Texas and Mr. Mike Behrhorst from Iowa evaluated the heifers in classes and the exhibitors in showmanship. Mr. Blake Bloomberg from Illinois served as the judge for the Market Beef Show.

These 4-H livestock exhibitors represent their schools and community as part of the Decatur County Show Team as they participate in livestock shows all over the southeastern United States. As a result of their involvement, youth gain character traits including responsibility, caring, and fairness. They certainly deserve the reward of hard-work and dedication. In addition, they practice numerous life skills including teamwork, self-motivation, building self-esteem, critical thinking, decision making, goal setting, cooperation, and communication.
