Office of District Attorney Secures 67 Felony Pleas of Guilty

The South Georgia Judicial Circuit held the Decatur County Adjourned May 2022 Term of Court starting on August 22, 2022.  Over the course of the week, the Office of the District Attorney was able to secure sixty-seven (67) Felony Pleas of Guilty. In addition, two cases, The State of Georgia v. Eugene Jackson, and The State of Georgia vs. Adam Boyett went to trial.

A Decatur County Jury convicted Jackson of Rape. Superior Court Judge Heather Lanier sentenced Jackson to serve a life sentence in the Georgia Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole. The state was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Fletcher Mulnix and Chris Richardson. ADA Mulnix stated he was “pleased that the victim got justice after such a long time” and was satisfied with the outcome for the citizens of Decatur County.

A different Decatur County Jury convicted Boyett of six (6) counts of Child Molestation and two (2) counts of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes. Boyett was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Heather Lanier to serve 30 years in the Georgia Department of Corrections followed by 20 years of probation and registration as a Sex Offender for life. The state was represented by Chief Assistant District Attorney, Michael L. Bankston.
