J. E. was born May 21, 1945 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Archester Bellflower and Flonita Erpelding. He was a graduate of Climax High School. He worked many years at Amoco Fabrics, did carpenter work, and was a small engine mechanic.

Survivors include his brothers, Roy Bellfower (Mary Ann) of Louisville, KY, and James Bellflower of Jesup, GA; his sisters, Brenda Clinton of Bainbridge, GA, Viki Crummey (Don) of Jesup, GA, and Deborah Bond (Darrell) of Duncan, SC; his caretaker, Gerald Larsen of Bainbridge, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
