Linda (Lindy) Joan Harrell

Linda Joan Harrell, 67, passed away at her home in Toccoa, GA on April 15, 2022. Lindy was born May 18, 1954 in California to Willis E. and Shirley Joan Strawhecker Harrell. Lindy is survived by her siblings, Suzanne Harrell Brandt, Willis E. (Tim) Harrell (Alice), and Bonnie Harrell Provence (Dan), her nieces and nephews, Heather, Trevor, Tim, Jennifer, Aubrie, Daniel, Mina, Ada, Toby, Jenna, Cru, Charlee, and Emerie, numerous extended family, and beloved friends.

Lindy graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1982 and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV. She had successful practices in Toccoa, Gainesville, and Dahlonega, GA, and was Chief of Staff at Stephens County Hospital.

Following her retirement, Lindy was an active volunteer with Northeast Georgia CASA, the community food pantry, environmental preservation efforts, a women’s clinic, an equestrian therapy program for youth, and sex trafficking prevention programs. In 2021, she was named Northeast Georgia CASA’s Volunteer of the Year. Her work with CASA impacted multiple foster children and their families in northeast Georgia.  She was an active member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Toccoa.

Lindy was devoted to her friends and family and loved them fiercely. She is loved eternally, and her memory will be treasured.

A public visitation will be held at Cox Funeral Home on a date to be announced.  On-line condolences may be sent at www.Coxfuneral.net.  Cox Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

  1. I will miss you friend. We first met in Toccoa, Georgia back in the late 80s and then we both moved to Dahlonega, Georgia in the early 90s. I’ll miss your smile and laughter.

  2. I worked with Lindy when she was an OB resident at OVMC in Wheeling WV. I remember her as an intelligent, kind woman with a great big smile and a laugh that was easy to recognize from another room! Lindy had a special bond with all of her patients. They trusted her with their care and a safe delivery. I remember going water skiing with Lindy in the Ohio River. I had never skied before and Lindy was driving her own boat while trying to yell instructions to me. I fell every time and she just laughed hysterically !
    I pray you can rest in heaven now Lindy.
