River Town Days Cancelled

Message from Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, the Chamber Board and RTD committee have decided to cancel the event planned for August 28-29.

As you know, we have tried to reschedule our beloved community event many times. We have spent hours planning the festival and seeking to make it the best it can be. This was surely to be the best year yet. It saddens the RTD committee and Chamber Board to have to make this difficult decision. Many factors came into play to make this decision; we received word this morning that the hospital is at full capacity and is overwhelmed with Covid patients, as is Memorial Manor. Additionally, our police department is stretched thin due to Covid-related absences, calling into question their ability to properly assist us with the festival. We are also dealing with the recent school closure for Decatur County, along with those factors, many of our sponsors reached out to convey their organizations would not be able to participate due to Covid infections among their staff. Further, we continue to receive cancelations from vendors, volunteers, and others involved in the festival due to being covid positive or concerns about the virus.  As such, the RTD committee and Chamber Board feels that canceling the event is in the best interest of the community and the future of the festival. As the Chamber of Commerce, our mission is to strengthen business, foster economic growth, and improve quality of life. The Board of Directors feels that our ultimate responsibility is to our membership. We do not feel that holding the event is in the best interest of the businesses we represent knowing that it would cause a spread of the virus in the community.

As of right now, there is no plan to reschedule the event. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. We look forward to gathering again when it is safe.
