Mildred Perkins Jones

 September 6, 1924 – April 9, 2021

Mildred Perkins Jones passed away on April 9, 2021 at the age of ninety-six. She was born on September 6, 1924 on a farm in Climax, GA to Lemuel and Mary McRae Perkins. She attended Bell Dixon School and graduated from Climax High School where she enjoyed writing poems and performing in school plays. At the age of eighteen, she married her high school sweetheart, Lewis D. Jones, in 1943. They were married for fifty-seven years and raised a large and loving family together.

Mildred had seven children: twins, Eve Meacham (Don) and Marilyn (stillborn); Sue Baggett; Randall Jones (Marilyn); Ethel Gunter Harrison (Gary); Martha Moore (Jim); and Jerry Jones (Jill). She was also blessed with sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren who loved their Grannie dearly.

Mildred devoted her life to her family and her church, Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church, where she selflessly served dinners on the ground for many years. She was the most giving and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. There was nothing she loved more than having all of her loved ones together for holidays and celebrations. Her kitchen always smelled of something delicious, and she made countless batches of teacakes, cinnamon rolls, and peanut brittle. Whether it was the home-cooked meals, handmade quilts, or simply taking the time to play silly games with her grandchildren, Mildred had a gift for making sure her family and friends knew that they were her most treasured priorities.

Mildred was preceded in death by: her husband, Lewis; their infant daughter, Marilyn; her grandson, Brian Lewis Jones; her sons-in-law, Hollis Gunter and Jerry Baggett; her parents, Lemuel and Mary McRae Perkins; her siblings, Ella P. Jones, Roma P. Mills, Catherine P. Naylor, Lloyd Perkins, and Melton Perkins.

A graveside service will be held at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 with Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Mildred’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Jerry Jones, 4160 Thomasville Road, Climax, GA 39834 or Bethany Hospice & Palliative Care, 2012 E.
