Virgie D. Poitevint

August 5, 1923 – September 23, 2020

Virgie D. Poitevint, 97, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

The graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing of six feet and/or wear protective masks in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines.

Clara Virginia Dodson was born August 5, 1923 in South Carolina, the daughter of John T. and Clara White Dodson. She married Willie Clyde Poitevint and they made their home in Bainbridge. Virgie was the Jack Winter union representative and retired with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Virgie was the epitome of old school. She could sew most anything and cook most anything. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She ran a tight ship but fed you well. Friends and family knew Virgie was a specialist in country cooking and her spread never disappointed.

Survivors include her daughter, Priscilla P. McVey of Colquitt, GA; her grandchildren, Todd & Deanne, Jeff, Rusty & Jenny, Kasey & Casey, Brandy & Lee, and Stuart & Angie; her great-grandchildren, Brody, Brittany, Blake, Justin, Jacob, Brett, Lauren, Leah, Kailyn, Macee, Sophia, Mia, Harrison, Lawson and Corbin;  and her great-great-granchildren, Ethan and Fenn. In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Clyde Poitevint; her son, Jimmy Clyde Poitevint; and her siblings, Jonnie May Dyches, Dorothy Dyches, Hugh Dodson, Elizabeth Sellars and William Dodson.
